Amid General Motors' restructuring and cost-cutting efforts last year, the automaker also was in talks to sell its Renaissance Center headquarters, Automotive News and Crain's Detroit Business have learned.

The biggest U.S. automaker was in discussions to sell its glass-towered complex here to billionaire businessman Dan Gilbert, according to four people familiar with the matter.

Talks between GM and Gilbert in the fall did not advance far, at least in part because the complex built in the 1970s and early 1980s by Ford Motor Co. under then-Chairman Henry Ford II requires substantial upgrades, including a costly overhaul of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, said three of the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks were private.

I still want to know where are all these buyers with their hand up saying they want an autonomous vehicle and will pay to have it? A whole lot of money is headed in that direction and I am still unsure why this is the case. BEV, ok, but self driving...not so much.

The vast majority are not on this site, likely chronicling and posting their life on Facebook or walking around constantly looking at their phone. When they do get in a car its a chore to them and they are usually in your rearview mirror texting. They are out there but they are not one of us. Having said that, there are many people who cannot drive and should not drive whose lives will greatly benefit from autonomous driving cars.

GM can have its employees work at home to save office expense since they are so desperately cash and profit poor.
