Driver Learns That Allowing Autopilot To Drive While You Are Drunk Will Get Your License Suspended
t doesn't matter how many times we say it. People will still use Tesla Autopilot as it's not intended to be used, or even inappropriately. This is just one of many stories about drunk drivers using the technology in an attempt to get home safely. Another recent story talked about a couple engaging in "relations" while their Tesla was driving.

One day, hopefully in the near future, cars may be able to drive themselves without human intervention. When that day comes, we can have some peace of mind that people's stupidity like drunk driving, or texting or watching movies, may not lead to catastrophic conclusions. In addition, there are many elderly people and young drivers on the road that may make unsafe choices. Hopefully, once this tech is at a whole new level, it will provide a failsafe for all of the above.

There remains NO state in the USA where the Autopilot can be considered the Driver of the Vehicle - no matter how safe. A real LIVE driver MUST still be available at a moments notice in case of a problem.

I have always maintained that the Insurance industry is going to be the determining factor in Auto-Driven vehicles - and we are only Starting to sort that out.

If you are drunk, injured, delivering a baby in the backseat, having a heart attack etc, it would be nice if these systems could be trusted to assist you and get you where you need to be for help. Time will tell. It would have been even more interesting to follow the car and see if it took this driver all the way home.
