Rolling Back The Scam: Texas Legislators Ready to Ban Red Light Cameras In-Spite Of Huge Revenues For Cities
Texas lawmakers just introduced a sweeping new bill that would ban red-light cameras outright in the entire state. The House Bill 1631 passed the Texas Senate last Friday by a 23-8 vote, which means it lands on the desk of Gov. Greg Abbott with many convinced that he’s going to sign it into law.

The bill states that red-light cameras are a violation of the right to due process.

"Red-light cameras violate the right to due process, by creating a presumption that the registered owner of the car committed a violation," Sen. Bob Hall, R-Edgewood, told DallasNews in a recent interview. Hall is one of the bill’s biggest sponsors.

Seems more likely a bunch of Texas politicians got caught on camera multiple times.

One might think so but one of the cities mentioned is Plano where Autospies HQ is located.

There is an intersection very close by that borders 4 cities (Plano, Allen, Frisco, and McKinney). There is a red light camera on the Plano corner.

The yellow light time for that corner are significantly different than the other 3 corners.

Why?

To catch you off guard and trigger ticket revenue. It also seems (unscientifically observed) that the majority of wrecks are at the corner. The flash on the camera also triggers randomly when cars are sitting at the light waiting triggering a ticket which can not be challenged in court. (due to court backlog)

Basically it is a scam to make revenue for the camera company and the city under the guise that it makes the intersection safer.

There is a Camera at Plano Pkwy and the Toll Road by my office and every time your front tire crosses the crosswalk threshold it's a ticket. Hopefully all Texans can get the governor to sign this and be done with the city revenue scam that it is!

In New Jersey - the Cameras were declared Unconstitutional a while back.

On a separate item - did you know that Signal at an intersection in NJ have to be approved by the County. However - there are still a large number of signals that never were authorized - but are operating - where if YOU appeal the ticket to the county court - they will throw the ticket out AND the city must pay court costs too.

Red light cameras create revenue, but they also dramatically reduce safety. A much better solution is a greater lag time between red and opposing green.

Time to ban soliciting at intersections as well, whether it is for commercial purpose or not. That creates all kinds of hazards.
