FCA Wraps Up New Detroit Jeep Plant And Creates Almost 5,000 Jobs

Detroit City Council wrapped up a lengthy day of voting and approvals Tuesday, paving the way for a $2.5 billion Fiat Chrysler investment in two east-side assembly plants.

Part of the deal involves a complex series of land swaps benefitting both FCA and the land-rich Moroun family, plus a raft of tax incentives bound for the automaker. It’s a good thing FCA didn’t target its investment at New York City.

As part of a broader, Michigan-centered production push, FCA intends to convert the Pentastar-producing Mack Avenue Engine Complex into an auto assembly facility building the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and a larger, three-row SUV. At the nearby Jefferson North plant, production of the Dodge Durango will continue alongside the new Grand Cherokee. Some 4,950 jobs are expected to be created by the investments.

Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but the planning for this huge investment and land swap likely started well before the election of 2016..... No corporation wakes up one day and decides to spend $5B on plant, it is one small part of a global car manufacturing strategy that likely has a 10-20 year time horizon.

You’re an idiot. Companies have multiple plans and based on dozens of factors, they execute accordingly. Perhaps this was part of their LT plan but after 2+ years of President Trump it happened. A non-politician who’s a businessman knows how to encourage job growth. Lawyers, politicians, and ignorant “academics” have no/or little “real world” experience or leadership skills.

Recall Barry Soetoro saying “those jobs are never coming back...” because he is an idiot and never did a thing in his life... and I suppose Trump does have a “magic wand”.

Also interesting these jobs didn’t go to Canada... it’s the Trump factor...sorry.

@xjug. It's $5B dollars. If you knew enterprise accounts and had sit in front of an EVP at a bank like I have, you would have a much better appreciation for the planning cycle that goes along with gigantic investments of this size. There is no Trump factor. It has no bearing as to who is in the White House, only market factors dictate this investment. The next logical step in a global strategy to make and sell cars in the most efficient and effective way possible is what is top of mind and is decided at the most senior levels of the firm.

OK @CommunistComments, if there is no Trump factor then there is no Obama factor, but you routinely credit Obama as the savior of mankind. Thus, once again your narrative fails you and once again, you are a hypocrite.
