Logistical Nightmare: Samsung Can't Deliver Volkswagen's Massive Demand For EV Batteries
The Volkswagen group is in the midst of securing a massive amount of battery cell supply to support its ambitious electric vehicle push, but one of its suppliers apparently can’t deliver.

Back in 2016, VW launched a new commitment to electric vehicles as they slowly started to distance themselves from diesel following the Dieselgate scandal.

With a goal to make 3 million electric vehicles per year between all their brands (VW, Audi, Porsche, etc.) by 2025, they considered making their battery cells to support the extremely high production rate, but they ended up abandoning those plans.

AS I have said before - we have limited supplies of Lithium - and other rare earth elements needed to produce Electric motors and Batteries. It is a production problem to be sure - there is more supply than is currently being mined - but eventually that might not be the case.

WIth so Many different devices using Lithium Batteries - the prices of these things will continue to go up - not down.

Useable life of Lithium batteries is a major issue...

The full capacity of a lithium-ion battery cell should be good for 300 to 500 cycles. ... After 300 to 500 cycles at 100 percent depth of discharge, a lithium-ion cell's capacity will drop to 70 percent. (sic)
