Cadillac Reconsiders Performance Sedans In Name Only - Promises REAL Power In Future For New CT4-V and CT5-V

Cadillac seems to have realized that it screwed up with the new V-Series models it debuted late last week. When the CT4-V and CT5-V were revealed on Thursday, both came with specs that made us wonder why General Motors thought these should be the cars replacing the V-Series variants of the CTS and ATS sedan. Fans of the brand noticed and most automotive outlets were forced to write head-scratching articles about why the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 will be a suitable replacement for the CTS-V’s big, Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter motor — which makes oodles more power and torque.

Part of this cannot be helped. Environmentalism and an increasingly global marketplace are encouraging automakers to scale down displacement sizes and pair internal-combustion engines with more hybrid tech and forced induction. But it hasn’t changed Cadillac’s problem of delivering a pair of vehicles that appear much weaker on paper than the automobiles they’re essentially replacing. As a result, the company is attempting to reassure customers that these won’t be the only V-Series models on offer.

When does Cadillac understand that they are fighting a battle they can't possibly win? Try not to beat other brands on their fortitude, but use your own qualities (luxury, comfort, innovation)

This company is run by complete and total idiots. Everything they do is head scratching and produces the need to back track. It’s so incompetent it’s funny, but it’s really more pathetic... they lead in no area and fail miserably at following. It’s embarrassing these idiots do nothing right and are not ashamed of themselves...

Exactly. Big, boldly designed V-8 luxury. This was exemplified by the rollout of the CT6, a big and technically sophisticated car. But they focused on the 4 cylinder and the "handling." If you are buying the flagship of luxury brands it is not for the handling. but for the luxury and the power. They are just now getting it right with the Blackwing wing abolder styling flourishes. The interior is still not up to snuff.

Cadillac was the originator of the saying "If it don't go, chrome it." That's why Cadillac has always been the king of chrome.

Caddy has never been about fact or performance. It has always been about myth, exaggeration and exhibition.

The CT5 is a massive stumble and how it was given the OK for production I'll never know. These "V" models if delivered at advantageous base level prices would have made them noteworthy. A Cadillac should be very powerful relative to the competition.

also, Cadillac took too long to introduce the CT5-V. And then cancelled the monster street trim. GM still develops vehicles from the bottom trim up. See XT6. The definitely need a XT6-V or V-sport....whatever. It will sell but won't help improved Cadillac's overall perception as compared to M-B/Audi/BMW.

No one is going to bring up the Nissan Altima Design towards Cadillac. So it is ok for them to RIP off Nissan but not the Kia Ceed SUV which is accused of ripping Infiniti.

Such a sad, sad, design. From the relatively beautiful Escala to this homely, sad, derivative POS. Just sad that someone had the nerve to sign off on this final design and think it would be well received by the premium-buying segment.
