Heavy Handed French Government Steps Into FCA/Renault Deal And Promptly Blows It Up
Fiat Chrysler withdrew a $35 billion merger offer for France's Renault, abruptly calling off what would have been a landmark deal to create the world's third-biggest automaker.

Renault directors failed to reach a verdict on FCA's May 27 merger proposal at a board meeting that ran late Wednesday, the company said. The board was "unable to take a decision due to the request expressed by the representatives of the French state to postpone the vote to a later meeting," Renault said in a statement.

Renault said it would continue to review the proposal "with interest."

Elkann gets more impressive with each bold move, this was the smart play. Leaves the French in disarray at the altar with now an even bigger Japanese problem. The deal will eventually come together but more on Elkann’s terms.

Japan could buy Nissan and Mitsubishi out from their terrorism of the French then Nissan-Mitsubishi could merge with FCA. THAT was the real synergy. the $hitbags in France were not the catch.

Trump needs to scorch Macaroon incessantly for this.

The French Government reportedly demanded that Job Cuts only occur outside of France. It is hard to run a multinational corporation with that level of meddling. The entire entity will be weak if it cannot make decisions based on good business practices.

The French were the dominant force in Europe for years. France lost 1.5 million men in world war one (the wall did not stop the Germans - some lessons there) and the French resistance fought valiantly in WW2. It was the influence of French intellectuals that helped the formation of the US Constitution.
We now have a cowardly president who today, on the anniversary of D-Day takes time to call SC Mueller a "fool." Mueller is a decorated Marine combat vet who volunteered to go to Vietnam despite a connected family that could have kept him out.
Every time I think DD cannot sink any lower he surprises.
I hope Pelosi gets her wish and forward goes to jail.

This: "... He is a noted economist..." is not only not true it's not even remotely true. His degrees are not in economics. Sure, he was given a titular job, but that does not make him an economist.

The French have a culture of self-inflicted harm as well.

Mueller is a traitor and the evidence is ample on that given his fake investigation.

You have no understanding of the word traitor. tRump and some of his staff are closer to that designation. If you sell out to Russia, an adversary, that is a traitor.

“the wall did not stop the Germans - some lessons there)‘“

Yep you’re right, real lesson there. The Germans never attacked the Maginot Line (wall) directly, they went around it where the French failed to build the wall, then got overrun through an area they fail to properly defend.

There’s your lesson, you get invaded in areas you fail to defend properly!

The special prosecutor cannot indict a sitting president. He did not exonerate tRump. Also, 38 indictments, several guilty pleas, at least one conviction, tRump's former campaign manager, and Roger Stone about to be. I would not he found nothing.
And there are separate investigations into Deutsche Bank for their funneling Russian money to the tRump organization.

The death of GOP strategist Hofleter and his released files show clearly how the NC GOP lied to cheat the system and gerrymander the vote to get 10 of 13 seats in their house despite getting less than half the votes.
This is happening in other states and the GOP accepted help from Russia to get DD the White House. Why does the GOP hate democracy and the constitution?
