Next Gen Tesla Model S And Model X Could Be Tri-Motor Designs

In a recent report, news publication CNBC noted that Tesla is rejiggering parts of its Fremont factory to make way for both the production of the Model S and X refresh and the Model Y. According to the publication, the information about Tesla’s updated Model S and X vehicles was related by multiple sources.

Just recently, some details of Tesla’s Model S and Model X refresh were shared by a Tesla insider to owner-enthusiast YouTube channel Like Tesla. In a short video, Kim, the channel’s host, outlined a number of details that the Tesla insider shared about potential improvements coming to the Model S and Model X. These include updates to the flagship vehicles’ motors, batteries, and charging systems, to name a few.

First off, the Model S and Model X refresh that the electric car maker is preparing to introduce later this year will potentially feature a tri-motor design, with one small motor in the front and two larger motors at the rear. The upcoming vehicles will further establish Tesla’s lead in terms of range as well, with the Model S refresh reportedly going for an EPA rating north of 400 miles (644 km) per charge, and the Model X nearing the 400-mile per charge mark.

The real Question is - not what it looks like - but will it actually sell now that the Model 3 is on the Market.

I understand that this may actually be an attempt at a premium product - but are there enough people left - NOW that there are other upscale options and soon will be even more - willing to spend $90,000 for this. I don't think that there are - and I believe that Tesla will be the odd manufacturer out at this level - since they are not really a premium manufacturer (They don't have a long term reputation).

I would think it looks a bit more like a Fisker Karma. But this rendering is still pleasing. Again Telsa is the OG. All the cars that come after are the 2nd wave. These buyers bought to be different. They may still feel that way going forward.

This obviously isn't an official render, but I like it. I think the redesign will be a more subtle change than this with OLED lighting.

If they can pull off 400 miles of range with three motors, no other competitor will even be close to that level of range and performance in a Sedan or SUV, including Porsche.

Now, if they can just make it fireproof.

First off, ICE cars are more likely to catch on fire after crashing. Second, far fewer Model 3 fires have been reported than S/X, almost none actually. The S/X will at least be using the battery tech from the 3.

The next-generation S and X will be designed by BAIC or Geely.
