California FAILS To Cooperate With White House On Emissions Requirements Paving Way For A Ban Of Fossil Fuel Vehicles

The White House is rejecting a bid from domestic and foreign automakers to restart talks with California over vehicle emission regulations.

A group of 17 auto manufacturers sent a letter to President Donald Trump on Thursday warning that failing to reach a unified national standard could destabilize the industry and hamper investment. The carmakers -- including General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp.’s U.S. subsidiary -- made the plea less than a month after California’s top environmental regulator threatened to enact much tougher pollution rules.

White House spokesman Judd Deere, responding to the letter on Friday, said the California Air Resource Board “failed to put forward a productive alternative, and we are moving forward to finalize a rule with the goal of promoting safer, cleaner, and more affordable vehicles.”

When Trump wins in 2020--and he will do so handily--the day after will begin the all-out war on California.

SorryMatt - Trump will not even be on the ballots of more than a dozen states that NOW require a candidate to release their income taxes. He cannot win unless he does it. ANd this time - he cannot promise and not deliver.

Good to see California continue to lead. This lunacy will be over in less than two years and then we can get back on track.

The far left is driving the party over the cliff and will loose handily in 2020. The battle amongst themselves to see who wins the nomination is getting uglier every day and so entertaining to see them use their underhanded tactics against each other.

@runningloser1 Typical idiot Liberal move i.e. when you cannot prevail on the merits of your side of the issue, smear the opponent. Translation: you lose.

Why not submit a counter proposal? If the White House is refusing to come to the table, it isn't fault of the other parties. You can't have a negotiated settlement without all parties at the table. Work it out.

The conditions in California - based on its topography - simply requires it to be cleaner that could be needed in other states. It has had different emissions requirements in the past - and its market is too big for the major manufacturers to walk away from.

The market DOES allow manufacturers to decide what cars they want to sell in California - as long they ALL meet the emissions requirements - making the field even for everyone. You will find that NO law specifies any particular make and model.

The irony is that if California were to attempt a total ban on fossil-fueled vehicles, it would produce a lawsuit that the Supreme Court would consider as it overturned the law.

There is a good chance they can get a total ban passed, however instead of dealing with that shitshow a better route would be take all the lawsuit money and just subsidize the heck out of EVs. If they raised the state incentive to $5k, almost all cars sold would be EVs.

Why should the state engage in wealth redistribution to bribe people to buy cars?

Read my post again. I'm saying instead of wasting money suing the federal government and battling it out, take that same amount of money and make it even more unreasonable to buy an ICE car in CA. It's either that or up the taxes considerable on polluting vehicles.

P.S. not a Tesla employee

Only 35 percent of the US population supports cadet bone spurs. With new rules to limit the extreme gerrymandering of the fascist who cannot win an election on merits, tax submissions and awarding of electoral votes, the pro-Russian dictator has a very small window to win.
I predict a true conservative who respects the constitution, our allies, free trade will Perot tRump. Let's hope it is not too late to restore democracy and rule if law.
