Tesla Dominates US BEV Sales In May With An Incredible 77% Market Share

In May 2019, Tesla sold in the U.S. some 16,350 electric cars (InsideEVs’ estimation), which is 82% more than a year earlier!

There is no sign of a demand problem for the brand, but as we can see on particular models, the S and X are experiencing decrease (especially the S), while the Model 3 more than doubles:

I personally hope Tesla does well. Over the last 30+ years I believe they are likely the only Western car company start up that has been revolutionary and successful in multiple ways. They certainly have a large demand and it seems a good lead in EV and automated driving technologies. Hopefully they can resolve some of their P&L issues (although not by having employees provide their own TP). Good on Tesla!

Agreed on doing right by the employees as well. I am not sure they can do all this, but my hope is that they can. I am rooting for this US company to succeed. A lot of headwinds but nonetheless it would be great to see a huge US success story IMHO, so I will continue to root for them while not ignoring legit criticism which I hope Tesla would incorporate into their future plans.

Another pro-Tesla source promoting Elon's propaganda. How do they conclude there is no demand issue? Another demand lever by Elon, the disappearing tax incentive, coupled with cutting prices on model 3 to move volume likely at a loss.
There is a demand issue.

77% market share. Yeah, huge demand issue. Lol.

Still less than 2 percent of the total US auto sales. Elon pulls sales ahead to prop up demand and then they hit a cliff again. Most analysts predicted this based on Elon's past games with demand. The sales will drop again in the 3rd quarter.

Awe, did I hurt your feelings? If you can factually dispute what I have said without your emotional attachment to Elon getting in the way, give it your best shot.

This is a positive sign. International sales are becoming a higher proportion of sales, so it will be interesting to see how those number pan out and whether they are profitable again this quarter.

Fanboys keep yacking about 77 percent market share of EV sales. There are only a few players. More competitors coming to slice up the demand pie into smaller pieces. Roh-roh.

I would much rather have a PHEV than an EV.

Is that kind of like how the heretic Pope is 100% of the Pope market?

"SorryMatt" - currently there are two Living "Popes" - one abdicated his responsibilities - but retains the Title. However - only the church can designate a heretic - for which YOU have no qualifications.

However - your point is correct - AND -they are deliberately leaving out the Hybrids in that figure as well

But Tom, you're an atheist and you dare to lecture people of faith? #hypocrite. By the way the word "emeritus" means "not any more". When a professor retires and becomes a professor emeritus, everyone knows he is a professor no more.

Actually there are several popes. The Coptic Church has a Pope, the orthodox church has a Pope.
Tesla will be better off when "emeritus" is added to Elon's title.
