200+ MPH IN Style - Bentley Announces The New Flying Spur
Bentley hopes to establish itself as the leader in the ultra-luxury saloon market ahead of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost’s arrival next year and says it has created a car that “maintains Bentley DNA” to appeal to loyal customers while offering contemporary design to entice a new generation of buyers.

The goal for the model – which follows the Bentley Bentayga and Continental GT in the sales rankings – is to offer sports saloon agility paired with limousine refinement so that it caters to both drivers and those being chauffeured. The latter is a crucial selling point for the Flying Spur in China, which is the largest market for the model alongside the US.

Overall I like it...However I'm not sure about the taillights lighting up into a B shape..seems a little tacky

Looks like a mini Mulsanne from the side view. Not sure it needs a winged ornament being a drivers car. But I am sure it appeals in markets where it is used to drive others around.

It looks like a Chinese copy of the Lincoln Continental which itself was lifted from the old Flying Spur. The nose is horrifically ugly. This is depressingly dated looking.

Totally agree. Doesn't anyone at Bentley look at the cross-eyed face of the car before approving it?

Now that you pointed this out, it does look more like the Lincoln than the previous generation.

If you take a look at the 1959 Bentley Continental Flying Spur, you can see the roots of this car in the 2020 model. It is great to see a brand that does not forget its history.

I guess its nice but too bad the sedan segment is DEAD. Maybe its popular in the middle east, Russia, and China?

I really wonder how much money Bentley loses for the VW Group as even platform amortization can't create much 'per unit' benefit at Bentley's low sales volumes. Same for Lamborghini. It baffles me.

@mre30 - It's all about unit margins. The BMW 7 Series is something like 5% of BMW sales volume, but contributes 20% of its profit. Imagine the same platform sold at the Ghost pricing level. Same goes for the shared VAG platform that underpins the Panamera and the Continental. Per unit dollars are huge. But Bentley has a business unit needs to get its numbers up somehow. Maybe this refresh will help.

Assuming that 20% of BMW's profit comes from the slow selling 7 Series, that won't last long.

THis car will likely be Chauffeured in most applications as a Chauffeur is not unusual in China with much smaller luxury vehicles

For that - I have not seen any statistics that show SUVs being used for that purpose.

ANd it is built on a multi-purpose platform - but add in that VW has several very high end exotics - which supply volume for lots of other parts for the car as well.

Hi TomM - Can you take a trip to China and report back to us?

Its funny - while I'm sure Mercedes are popular in China, we don't really see MB trumpet out how popular their flagship sedans are in China - not like Bentley or RR certainly.

Mercedes doesn't really seem to promote its success in the Chinese market, though I suspect they are very successful.

TomM can afford that and if he can't, the funds are just another munchausen syndrome by proxy move away.

Finally a design that can make you proud to own without shouting bling or boring. The current Bentley lineup is just plain ugly with lots of chrome, including the hideous Bentayga. If someone wants a super saloon in the upper reaches of the sedan price point, this is now a real contender.. At LAST, I say well done.

I think it looks great.

Bentley isn't just pulling this out of its ass, it does market research and is in tune with its clientele.

Most people who are complaining about its looks...well, let's just say they're not in the market for one anyway. I know statistically speaking, most people aren't in the market for a car like this, but probably more so amongst those who despise it.
