Volkswagen May Have Found The Right Partner With Ford For EV And Autonomous Vehicle Production

Volkswagen Group is nearing a deal to cooperate with Ford Motor Co. on electric-car technology and self-driving vehicles, according to VW CEO Herbert Diess, who also called for a faster transformation of the German manufacturer.

Talks with Ford are “progressing well” and are close to being finalized, Diess said in prepared remarks seen by Bloomberg and delivered at a gathering of the carmaker’s 500 most senior executives in Wolfsburg, Germany. The pact, which already includes co-producing vans and pickups trucks, is part of VW’s plan to add scale and save costs to counter slower sales and record spending requirements to develop new technologies.

Let see - Ford is giving up its EV information - and Autonomous Vehicle information, Its Pick-up truck and getting ?

Ford already has a better Large Van platform than VW - Certainly.
And Ford has more Crossovers than VW - does not need its cars at any level.

Ford has left the car business - largely - and does not need VW platforms for them (Unless they try to bring Lincoln Upscale)

This will NEVER lead to a merger (Ford family still holds controlling voting interest) -Unless VW comes up with a HUGE overage for the family stock.

And we still have NO idea whether AUtonomous Vehicles will ever take much of the market in the next 10 years - probably not.

Maybe they could work together to bring back Philco appliances!
