Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against FCA For Infamous Death Wobble

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has been slapped with a class-action lawsuit relating to the infamous ‘death wobble’ involving 2015-2018 Jeep Wranglers.

Filed in Detroit’s U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the lawsuit asserts that the issue occurs because the solid front axle of the Wrangler cannot absorb bumps and vibrations as efficiently as an independent front suspension. It is alleged that the front axle and steering components of the Wrangler can be jarred out of equilibrium, resulting in violent shaking of the vehicle at highway speeds.

I reported the 'death wobble' from the primitive solid front axle to my dealer in the service department. I was always told it was 'normal' for all Jeep Wrangler to wobble. Looks like he was very dishonest.

Or not. Manufacturers have been known to tell service people that a "defect" is "normal" for a specific design. You have no idea how things work. We've ha service people get into arguments with the manufacturer reps over something that is obviously a defect that the manufacturer will not acknowledge. VW was the king of this.

I've driven several if the new Wranglers and have not experienced the "death wobble". I have to wonder how much of it is people not being aware of how a dual live axle chassis feels.
