RECALL ALERT: Mercedes-Benz In The HOT Seat? Diesels Found With Software To DISTORT Emission Tests...
Daimler must recall 60,000 Mercedes diesel cars in Germany after regulators found that they were fitted with software aimed at distorting emissions tests, the Transportation Ministry said on Saturday.

The model affected is the Mercedes-Benz GLK 220 produced between 2012 and 2015.

Daimler confirmed that the recall was ordered on Friday but said that it would appeal against the decision while continuing to cooperate with regulators...

Mercedes isn't behaving like VW.

If just about every manufacturer had to develop software to circumvent the mandated emissions standards. it could mean that those mandated emissions standards are arbitrary and unobtainable by design to achieve a Social Engineering goal.

Over 50% of the new cars sold in the EU were Diesel vs 3% in the USA. But in the middle of WV 3 foreign students decide to emissions test VW Diesel engines during actual on road testing vs the standard testing. Why?

1 - Due to the use of diesel by the Truck Transportation industry in the EU =- the taxes on Diesel Fuel are lower and diesel fuel is much less expensive - where regular gas can top $7 a gallon. Most people simply cannot afford to drive a gas car in europe.

2 - No government testing is done in actual condition because they cannot be constantly defined nor are repeatable. So - testing must be done under controlled conditions - which creates a situation where the Manufacturers have the ability to tune their engines to a specific condition - one that rarely actually happens in real life.

3 - THe problem is NOT the ability to meet the standards - it is the ability for the engineers to meet the standards within economic constraints of actual production - and lots of people -not just Auto Engineers - have certified noncompliant items (Happens all the time in the Lumber industry with the new engineered lumber products)in order to save their jobs. (Auto is one of the few places where wages are high compared to others)

diesel emissions standards unobtainable? not likely.

but there could be other operating reasons for these alternate software controls. shop testing conditions are always different from on-road. more systems are running. idk.

tricking the emissions equipment to meet regulations seems so "small-time". like a consumer trying to alter his own car to trick annual emissions testing & get out of either doing repairs or paying a fine/fee.
