SPIED! FIRST Pics Of The Next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee Hit The 'Net — What Will It NEED To SUCCEED?
One of our favorite vehicles here at AutoSpies is the current-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee. Known for being developed in partnership with Daimler, it shares some of the chassis magic that made the last-gen Mercedes-Benz ML turned GLE-Class a success.

There's just one problem.

The Grand Cherokee today is feeling a bit long in the tooth. While it's still a great product that you can get a nice deal on, it's not the benchmark any longer. So, out with the old and in with the new.

Slated for 2022 — we're guessing the 2022 model year — will be the all-new Grand Cherokee. And snapped for the very first time are spy shots of one of the first prototypes.

Given that this is the first time it's being seen out and about, it is a very early prototype. That means it is equipped with heavy camouflage and has the same qualities of a black garbage bag. What we can tell though is that it will remain largely the same from a size/proportions perspective.

Having said that, we were a bit curious though: What do YOU think the all-new Grand Cherokee NEEDS to SUCCEED in its respective segment?

Remember, the competition is hotter than ever before.

In My area - Jeep sales have topped out due to reliability issues. Where once the Pundits would recommend the Jeeps - they are now moving on to other vehicles in their segments.

THat does not mean that a new Jeep based on a Mercedes Platform will not sell - it does mean that there will not be as much forgiveness for problems.

FCA had a juggernaut - that the new RAM trucks seemed to spark - but Today - they are Advertising 20% cash back off MSRP on the hoods to move the trucks.I am expecting reduced sales over the next couple of years.

At this time of the year, money ALWAYS goes on the hood even of hot-selling vehicles. The F150 is king, but if GM is incentivizing the ugly Sliverado, Ford has no choice but to follow suit. FCA is putting money on Jeeps because they grossly overproduced them and the supply is well in excess of demand, but the 2020s are coming and as soon as a 2020 is on the lot, the 2019s become toast.

If it didn't look EXACTLY like the previous version that would be a start.

Amen.

I'd like it to look very masculine like the XJ Cherokee with a very industrial look inside. It will be another fart from Fiat.

They will have to butch it up somewhat, make it roomier and at least match interior quality with Lincoln. Otherwise, they should design on the hood to put the cash.

I think the Bronco will compete with the Grand Cherokee too even though that is theoretically the Explorer's job.

For starters Jeeps need to stay true to their image and a highly sloped windshield does not fit that image. They should sacrifice a tiny bit of mpg to retain that image of rugged off road capable SUV that retains a bit of class at the golf course.

The last redesign was a bit of a disappointment. The interior is rental grade and quality has been an issue.
They sell on their brand name and lack of direct competition. This is about to change.
