SHOCKING VIDEO: What PUNISHMENT Should Be Implemented On Sleeping Drivers Behind The Wheel Of Their Teslas?
It's happened again.

That's right, Spies. Yet another Tesla driver has been nabbed on video behind the wheel of their vehicle. There's just one major problem: They were asleep.

This isn't the first time either. Sleeping or resting drivers have been spotted numerous times moving at highway speed with what we presume is Autopilot mode engaged.

While it's impressive to see Autopilot doing such a good job for an extended period of time, we do know that this system is not entirely reliable. And, Tesla even says it requires an attentive driver to operate the vehicle even in Autopilot mode.

This latest case is even more concerning. That's because the witness to this selfish idiot noted that the driver had tied something around the wheel — likely to keep the vehicle from intervening.

It's clear this problem isn't going away. To me, it seems that law enforcement needs to take action. So, I've got to ask: What type of PUNISHMENT should be levied against sleeping/resting drivers behind the wheel of Tesla vehicles?

What do you think is appropriate?

Well, it seems like death may be their punishment, but unfortunately they are likely to take someone else with them. Penalty should be equivalent to drunk driving.

Agreed, penalty should be the same as Drunk Driving.

The solution is to outlaw autonomous driving because the technology so obviously isn't ready for prime time.

Then more people will die overall.

It used to be that Audis were driving by worst examples of driving douchebaggery. Tesla is the new king. I saw a guy in a Tesla yesterday on the 170 in LA with both hands off the wheel and avidly engaged in whatever was on his phone. He drifted toward me several times. I guess Autokill doesn't believe in lane centering. I'd wish him to die in a crash for being low-life stupid, but he'd take innocent lives with him.

If it was drifting AP wasn't on, he might have thought he was. I see people text & drive all the time without being in Teslas--lot's of bad drivers out there.

@Dexter1 Not harsh at all. Stupid people deserve instant karma.

@SanJose It WAS on. I was next to him in the flow of traffic through several curves that the car steered through and his hands never left the phone. he was also not knee driving.

My wife has the video of it. She shot it in case we needed proof for a lawsuit.

Was it a Model 3 or a Model S? AP has been incredibly good at lane centering in the last few releases. It hugs corners a bit like a normal human driver would, but it shouldn't be swerving around like crazy even on tight roads. If it was a Model S, could be an older AP 1.0 car which unfortunately will never get upgraded.

It should at least be as harsh as DUI, with jail time.

In Ontario this guy could get charged with Impaired Driving which is the same as DUI. Anything that impairs your ability to drive -drugs, alcohol, tiredness can get you charged which is a criminal offence. I am surprised more states don't mimic this law as it would be a useful tool for douches like the one above.

Teslas do not drift when on Autopilot. They stay nailed right in between the lines.... better than most humans. This is good and bad.

My Model 3 stays like rails in between 2 parallel lines the problem is that if one line, for example, the right lane line veers away for an on-ramp entry for vehicles getting on the highway autopilot will correct to the right to stay centered between the lines even if far away from each other. Btw, The screen is constantly nagging at you to keep your hands on the wheel.

Umm NO.

The guy my wife and I observed was blissfully uninvolved with his Tesla.

Video evidence, please MDarringer.

I will gladly provide any video evidence of lane keeping of my model 3.

MD is a troll, don't bother justifying or trying to rationally discuss anything with him is my advice.

CCinC is a trolling bully, but that doesn't keep him of his high horse.

And CCinC you're a liar and a hypocrite. If people should not bother to discuss anything rationally (note correct grammar) with me, it would follow logically that you'd set the example by NEVER saying anything to me or about me. Stop trying to play the angel. You're a bully, so own it.
