AWESOME or AWFUL? Is A Full Electrified, Retromod Ford Mustang What You Had In Mind For $375,000+?
In the UK, we've been starting to see the release of electric vehicles that are different than what you'd typically expect. No, it's not just your Nissan Leafs or Chevrolet Bolts or Teslas.

This is something more eccentric.

These are extreme retromods. This came to light after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. That's because everyone took note of the Jaguar E-Type Roadster the couple drove around in. There was one dirty little secret. The E-Type was actually fully electric.

It looks like that's happening again with an electrified version of a vintage Ford Mustang. And, it'll cost you.

The price to do this is 300,000 GBP.

Less than 500 are expected to be built and this 'Stang gets a 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed debut. So, what do YOU think? Is it AWESOME or AWFUL?

Fancy an all-electric Ford Mustang? In an original bodyshell officially sanctioned by Ford? This third-party conversion by Charge Cars is just that, and promises 0-60mph in less than four seconds with zero emissions.

The catch? Well, it costs a whopping £300,000 for starters, and this is very much an independent job, not an official Blue Oval product. It's four-wheel drive and combined peak power of 400kW makes for some pretty rapid performance figures (149mph is quoted).

But it's pretty eye-grabbing, all the same. Charge Cars quotes a 200-mile range from the 64kWh battery pack and says it can DC fast-charge at 50kW to charge the battery in little over an hour. The electric motor and power control systems come from EV specialist Arrival...

Ha ha ha. What an eyesore. Were the Lexus/Toyota designers moonlighting?

That's pretty cool, but would be awesome if Ford actually provided an official retrofit program to breathe new life into vintage Mustangs. These along with classic Corvettes are some of the best looking American cars ever made.

Vintage Mustangs don't need new life breathed into them. But that's to be expected of someone who loves appliances and not cars.

I'm more of a technologist.

@SJD did you bother to look up that word because I guarantee you aren't a technologist.

I actually am, but not automotive tech unfortunately.

Personally I think ICE engines are great in an retro mod but it is good to see new options appearing for those that want them - the more options the merrier. I doubt the numbers of these old cars significantly add to CO2 emmissions so I am good with a Cayote motor or a 429/428 in there as well.

We've done a few "stock" Mustangs with up-to-date Coyote engines and 6 speed auto trans conversions along with a massive upgrade of brakes.

I'd love to get an old 2+2 Mustang and make a fake GT500KR using the voodoo engine. I'm always bidding on wrecked new Mustangs.

I also need to find another Lagonda because the one we did produced another soul that wants one. I don't want to have to go to the UK, but that might be necessary.

That sounds very nice would love to see some pics. What would one go for roughly? I feel like I am always shopping for my next car. One change they make on a lot of the retro mods is when they tub the rear slightly (I believe that is the right term) to accept larger tires within the original exterior fenders, although it looks better on some cars than others. The 69 Camaro and earlier 65-68 fastback Mustangs seem to look good with this mod while the 69 and 70 model Mustangs don't look so good with this modification to my eye.

We sold the Lagonda for $80K and it was a $40K build. Restomodded Mustangs sell all day in the $50-60K range.

@SJD, no, you don't. You don't like cars. You like appliances. If I thought you were remotely interested, I'd have you contact me, but you're just BSing and you know it

@MD- What do you think of the Dynacorn shells/Part for a fake-ish Mustang build? Clean steel and no rust can't be a bad place to start.

@MD- Why is it stupid? If the car isn't numbers matching .... why care? Clean sheet. Better to build from vs looking forever for a donor? You don't like it bc it is not authentic?

I can't afford a Lagonda unless I treated it like an investment. Would rather stick with what I know (tech stocks).
