Will The Upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer Look BETTER Or WORSE Than The Kia Telluride?

Will The Upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer Look BETTER Or WORSE Than The Kia Telluride?
Over this weekend, Agent 001 and I were sparring again. Discussing all-new vehicles and their designs, we stumbled from one design to the next.

The goal? To understand vehicles that were not the greatest, in terms of looks, and to figure out the vehicles that punch above their weight.

In other words, their exterior design looked just as strong and well executed as the luxury autos of our day.

Take, for example, the Kia Telluride that's getting compared to a Volvo or even a Range Rover.

This, of course, got us thinking. As we were looking at the product plan while discussing the spy shots of the next-gen Grand Cherokee, we noticed for 2022 the Grand Wagoneer is scheduled to make an appearance. Frankly, the Grand Wagoneer is long overdue and expectations for a BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class competitor are running high.

Simply put, many folks are waiting for the Grand Wagoneer. But, the Telluride may have already stolen the show. That's because we're hearing from our Spies that the upcoming flagship Grand Wagoneer WON'T look better than the currently released Kia Telluride.

So, we've got to ask: Will the upcoming Grand Wagoneer look BETTER or WORSE than the Telluride?

The Teluride is a bit of a bloaty think more along the lines of the big Infinity. I don't see Jeep doing bloaty so I will go with the Jeep looking better.

So, how would you describe that Grand Commander thing they made for China?

The Grand Wagoneer has to impress on the level of Escalade/GLS/G-class etc.

The level of expectation for this one vehicle is definitely sky-high. Good luck, FCA.

If it's another atrocity like the Jeep Commander (06-10) then it will be worse. If it is stylish like the Grand Commander then it will equal the Telluride, but the Jeep is aiming at a much higher price class, so maybe throwing some Wrangler cues into it would be good.

yeah...see...a lot people missed that. The Grand Commander is a real actual SUV. And all the fanatics went ape-sh!t when it was released in China. The exterior proportions were not very good at all.

Actually, in customer clinics here it trended very well. Dealers wanted it. It's far better looking than the horrible Cherokee.

Hopefully they have dropped their pipe dream of pricing at the same level as the GLS etc...

If anything they should make the next Grand Cherokee a bit less pricey so that the Grand Wagoneer can be priced so as not to be laughed at.

The Gladiator's pricing is a bit too much to be taken seriously.

On that note, Ram should do a version of the Gladiator with vintage Power Wagon styling.

I don't know. I think the current Grand Cherokee is priced nicely. For a Summit with the HEMI, I think it's about $50K, depending on options. Compared to 8-cylinder X5's and GLE's that's a bargain. Even the Trackhawk at just over $100K is not horrible.
The Laredo starts at $31K. Any lower and it's right on top of the Cherokee. But, to your point, the Grand Wag needs to be priced right, and not go head to head with the luxury class.

The GC is routinely $45-50K when it needs to be $10K cheaper for its segment. Ask for $10K off. You'll get it.

The Grand Commander will NOT be an off ride vehicle. It has a way too too wheelbase so it will hang up and bottom out on any trail or off road trip.

I believe the premise was styling not off road capability. The Grand Cherokee isn't used as a hard core off-roader like the Wrangler is, so having a long wheelbase would not be a major concern. As for driving on trails, it would not be bottoming out all the time.

If it's anything like the Grand Commander then it won't stand out. It will look like so many other SUVs on the market with its upswept rear window line (no idea what the tech term is for that). Much like the Caddie XT6 looks like a Pilot/Ascent. But at least the XT6 has a clean look, akin the XC90. The Grand Commander looks like a Grand Cherokee, Honda Pilot, and a Rover Discovery had a baby. And it just doesn't work for something that will compete with the Aviator class.

it does not matter at this point. The Grand Wagoneer will not be out for at least 3 years ( i have been reading about FCA bringing back the Grand Wagoneer for at least 6 years). The Telluride is already on sale and doing quite well. Where will the GW fit in the market? It is a crowded segment and they have to execute perfectly. If recent FCA products are any indication, there is reason for pessisim.

The GW's fit would be in the Tahoe/Yukon/Expedition segment.
