Almost Every Luxury Brand Sales Are Sliding For The Year, But Why Is This ONE Is Way Up?

Thanks to the increasing popularity of its two most affordable models, 2019 appears to be the year in which Volvo’s U.S. operations will appear firmly and solidly back on track.

For the first time since 2007, Volvo is set to sell more than 100,000 vehicles in the United States. At the current 6 percent growth rate, Volvo is on track for a 12-year high. 60 years since the Swedish brand landed in America, and nearly a decade since its U.S. ownership phase ended at the hands of Ford, the now Chinese-owned marque is on the ascent for very much the same reason it was when setting sales records in 2004.

A mix of popular utility vehicles and growth from its entry-level models.

Volvo remains true to its Swedish tradition and traits offering a pleasing alternative in terms of external and interior style, safety and driving compared to the German, US and Asian offerings. A formular that Cadillac could learn from but refuses to recognize or adapt.

Volvo builds cars/suv's in Sweden, Belgium, China and the USA. Being ignorant and uninformed has no place on Autospies.

@MD- Always a down vote when you point out the simple facts to the masses. Google is very helpful. Some posters should really try it out.

@Md I know. I am in a chippy mood today. Seasonal Allergies suck. :/

Thankfully I'm not prone to allergies and that's a miracle here.

I find Volvo vehicles to be overpriced for what you get. Plus, nothing but buzzy turbo AND supercharged engines are suspect.

I find it difficult to believe that Volvo is selling 100K cars.
The article is curiously deliberately vague on this sales number.
It says Volvo sold 100,000 cars but it never states in what time frame the vehicles were sold in. The article is specious and possibly fake.

@Truthy it is really you that are the one spreading lies and fake news. The article clearly says the sales data they are referring to comes from www.carsalesbase.com. You can go to the Volvo page and see by month all of their sales. Add it up yourself.

My apologies to @Truthy. My bad. It was @skytop spreading fake news about the facts in the article. Read the article before you comment. Better yet pick up a book and learn a bit about the world.

And yes it is slightly odd that Volvo continues to find customers when they are offering 4-cyl supercharged / turbocharged engines. That should really be enough to put off any buyer, even if the rest of the car/suv is to your likely. If you must, lease it and give it back in 3 years.

There is a LOT of money on the hoods of Volvos to move them off the lot. Locally, though, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and Volvo have been phased out of the market.

@MD Amazing that nobody wants to buy a engine squeezed within an inch of its life. $100k USD for a XC90 grand poo-bah version is really quite something. That would be a $130K up here in Canada.

Volvo was a money pit here. It wasn't in the portfolio but a friend is affiliated with them and he was trying to dump Volvo for a year. Finally Volvo gave in.

Volvo sales are up 4k units or 6% in the US, totaling 40K units through May. That's well below Benz, BMW, Lexus, Audi, Acura, and Infiniti YTD.
