Ford says it's still not competitive
Ford Motor (F) CEO Alan Mulally said Friday that the company is "not competitive" in a brutally honest and frank interview describing the challenges the company faces..

"We are clearly not competitive," Mulally said of his company and Michigan's economy. "We're not competitive and it's been getting worse year after year.

"The most important thing we can do is recognize our reality and deal with it," he told the Detroit Free Press.

Yes Fox, you are right that it would be nice for Ford to bring over the Euro-spec cars that we are deprived of. But the majority of us American's don't want those cars and still have our blinders on. People in Europe have to drive all over the place just to get to the market, and that is starting to become reality here.

But until we over here on USA soil start to warm up to diesels and small but powerful and efficient engines....we will be stuck with what Ford and GM think we still want.

Makes me want to pack up and move across the pond.

Exactly who thinks that Ford is competitive??? The part that sucks is that they are still sending the better cars overseas and giving their most faithful, Americans (once faithful), customers crap.

American car companies are getting slaughter by the japanese and koeans, all they have to do is focus and get back on the basics. Learn a thing or 2 from the japanese and build good reliable cars again.

A Ford CEO who's in touch with reality! Maybe Ford has a chance. Given the time it takes to go from company turnaround, to concept to completion, we won't see his influence on the company until at least 2009/2010 model year.

We expect "crap" from their model line, yes, which is precisely the reason they're losing billions and having dismal sales over here.

It's why the Camry and Accord sell so well.

It's why they're so "not competitive".

Expecting something doesn't mean it will sell well. Bring over the unexpected- bring over the best cars they can muster.

Ford makes more money selling their cars in Europe cuz of the euros. This is why they have better cars in Europe since they have more money to invest in designing better vehicle. Ford makes crappy cars here cuz the market is very competitive which hinder them from adding premium price which leads to less money to invest in RSD.
