Video: How safe is the Smart?

So you saw a Smart two-seater zooming down the highway. Small as it is, it really revolutionizes the age of extreme compact cars. But you wonder: how safe is it really? Top Gear experimented with two compact cars crashing into a concrete wall. Although both did well, the Smart had a more rigid steel structure, while the other did not. On a more positive note, it does impressively under low speed collisions, in which the Smart was up against a Mercedes-Benz saloon. However, the result of the crashes show us that these compact cars must be used with care when driving in high speeds on the freeway. Because although the car may still provide its original structure, passengers inside the car will not.

Sure it proves it's a strong build but is it a safe enough car to support a human being in without dying. Any car can have crush points where it can save the car structurally but can it save somebody that I highly doubt. The smart car goes from 70 to not in 1 second. How is the persons neck or back going to feel? I highly don't they will be able to walk out of it. However that depends on how they hit as well though.

Did you see the dash board and debris inside the car? Sure, the outside holds up, but they needed to have a crash test dummy or something because that's what's important in a crash.

This car is a Euro car where everybody drives little bitty cars.

It's not like you see going down the 5 or 405 in Orange County.

What the hell is a "Regular Sized Car" ??

In North America it is Lincoln Navigator Sized SUVs
In UK it is Polo, Corsa, Fiesta Sized Compacts
In Africa it is Corrolla Sized Cars
