Spy Shot: 2008 BMW 5 Series
Here is a quick spy shot of the new upcoming 2008 BMW 5 Series caught testing in Germany. it may look like any other 5-Series but if you look closely you’ll notice a new front bumper that seems to be redesigned to improve cooling which can indicate a new engine and gearbox. You can also see the extended arches that indicate a longer wheelbase. The new 2008 BMW 5 Series might not be as long as the one released especially for China but will have more room and new engine including a new 3.0 liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine producing about 310 horsepower. A hydrogen-powered motor is also rumored.

Interesting. I hope BMW won't charge an arm and a foot for it.
I think the N54 engine will be a right fit for the 5 series which IMHO is the most underpowered BMW line.

stretching the platform during a facelift? thats quite unusual. usually its new headlamps or something.

I don't think BMW needs to refresh this model. They just need a NEW model entirely.

By making the 535i, I think it is very likely BMW is going to drop the 540i, which is not for sale in the US.

I heard that they will not be dropping the 540i overseas.
But the North American market, they will be using the bi-turbo on the 4.0 litre V8 from the 540i to derive a 5.0litre equivalent V8 for the 550i,650 and 750i.
bi-turbo 3.0 litre I6 for the 135i, 335i and the 535i
bi-turbo 4.0 litre V8 for the 550i,650i anhd the 750i.

More like the worse looking sedan on the the road! The 5-series is proof that the BMW name is strong enough to sell any vehicle regardless of how it looks...As long as their logo's on it, people like "AmazingBimmer" won't even consider a beautiful E550, handsome A6, or the 5er's conservative yet sporty alternative Infinti M45.

I'm still trying to figure out how this is the same design team that penned the beautiful 6, 3-coupe, & M-coupe. The 5-series is pure German, yet it looks like it came from a Japanese family...Mabye he was adopted?

I love the 5 series. Its a perfect combination of sports and luxury. The styling is the most futuristic in its class that u can design a car like this and it will last more than 10 years!!! I dunno wat u guys r talking about, everytime i look at this i like it more. Impressive design.

Facelift for My 2008 will be minor (different bumpers, air intake, LED rear lights, slightly different grille etc, new interior door panels, iDrive with memory buttons - ala E70, new engines, new gearbox - ala E70, electronic parking brake, slightly revised suspension - Adaptive Drive).

Btw, the car in the pic is V5 mule!
