Automotive News Data Center reveals that Toyota Motor Corp.

continues to take the lead when it comes to US hybrid sales. And it doesn’t appear that Ford Motor Co. or Honda Motor Co. would be overtaking it anytime soon considering that it leads by an outstanding margin; it sells more than all of its rivals combined.

Toyota sold a total of 144,351 during the first three quarters of 2009. With Prius sales having recorded a drop of 20%, Toyota’s total U.S. hybrid sales fell 28%. Honda’s popular Insight and Civic hybrids contributed to its getting the No. 2 spot. It sold 29,958 hybrids during the first three quarters of 2009, an 8% increase compared to the previous year. However, Ford is threatening to get the No. 2 spot from Honda with a 73% gain in hybrid vehicle sales compared to a year ago.
