Although I have to say that, overall, cars have increased in their quality and reliability, they still are getting more complicated all the time. Some industry experts believe that an automobile now is even more complicated that today's modern aircrafts.
Considering the amount of sensors and technology being explored, I believe them.
And though vehicles across the board have risen in their reliability, it seems that consumers still hold back with the domestic automakers. How do I know this? Well, in a very unscientific manner, when I am asked by friends or family what new car they should purchase, they typically express concern about reliability and when I suggest a domestic nameplate they shudder with fear.
It's obvious to see the MAJOR improvements that have taken place at the Detroit three's operations and in their quality control departments, but after YEARS of poor products the brands have NOT made their reputation good for themselves in the eyes of the buying public.
