STUD Or DUD? Can The Audi TT RS Take The Sport Coupe Market By Storm?

STUD Or DUD? Can The Audi TT RS Take The Sport Coupe Market By Storm?
There is a lot to like about Audi's latest creation the TT RS.

340 horsepower, 331 ft/lbs of torque, and a  0-60 time of under 5 seconds, are by any means respectable numbers.  But combine this with a 25 miles per gallon average makes this sport coupe the best of both worlds for the enthusiast.

After all with an exhaustnote like this how could you lose?

TT RS Exhaust Sound

Making it's world debut next week, this supercharged 5 cylinder sport coupe promises to dispel any notions that the TT is more show than go.  Gone forever may be the moniker that it is just a styling trend setter that can't hang with the big boys in the performance category.  Not only can this baby keep up, is can do it while saving gas and emitting less pollutants than that distantly fading competion.

Check out these latest pre-release shots and let us know if Audi has a Stud or a Dud on their hands with the new TT RS?

While the spoiler looks good on the normal version, I think it looks tacky on the convertible. Other than that, it looks great, and the numbers seem promising. Lets see what the competition can come up with.

Definitely LOOKS like a STUD!! I am a big fan of the TT, but I wish the TT-RS 0-60 was closer to 4.4 seconds.

TT-S would give me the same excitement for less.

who says it isn't. Audi said well under 5 second in its press release.

TT-S already does sub 5sec 0-60 so the RS will definitely be close to 4.4

Go to your local Audi dealer... brochure states 0-60 in 4.9sec for the TT-S.

i love how Autospies post articles about Audi.

It is always "Stud or Dud?" inferring that it could be a dud but then post for BMW are "Is this the Greatest Car Ever Made?"

Coupe looks okay with the spoiler, but the convertible looks garish and ricerish with the spoiler. I don't think the TT RS will take the sport coupe market by storm. The 5-cylinder engine is an oddball choice as a powerplant and the TT still has to overcome the chick car that shares the same platform with the VW Golf image as well.

Finally something that makes me want to upgrade the ole STI. But wait, it will cost $70K. Audi misses the boat on price point - again.

How do you know???
TT-S is barely above $52k loaded.
$60k is more like it.
And even if it is, it's o.k to spend that much on a SLK55 that cannot handle anything on the track, but not on a TT?
Says who?????

I think its a pretty decent looking car. I know that TOPGEAR didn't like its handling though.

The engine sounds fantastic. If Audi can figure out the handling the've got a winner.

The RS versions always get a unique suspension that offers more than the plebian versions. There is also talk of a sport differential that would make a huge difference in performance similar to the way it works on the new S4 sedan. If that happens, watch out, this thing could really be fun. It appears that this car is giving out R8 like performance for about half the price. Way to go Audi!

I think it looks awesome, and I'm not just saying that. The air intakes are insane. The exhaust note is perfect. I am loving Audi's new small engine philosophy; you seem to truly get the best of both worlds with the TT-S/RS and new S4.

If you consider how much the B7 RS4's handling was improved over the S4, I would wait until this thing is tested to judge how it will drive overall. Don't be surprised if it's a baby R8.

Well, yeah, be surprised... but not that much.
