FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Morning Tease, The Toyota FT86 II Shows Itself
If you've been maniacally following Toyota and Subaru's joint project -- known on the streets as the Toyobaru -- you'd know by now that Toyota has produced several versions of its own car, dubbed the FT86.
And after getting teased by last week's video, you'd know that the FT86 Concept II will be unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Well, here are the first shots that 001 nabbed earlier...
Although it doesn't show much, it does give you an idea that this particular concept is of the sportier variety and is under the Toyota brand, unlike the Scion take on the FT project car.

Very nicely styled with a good mixture of performance and class...just
two comments, 1) elephants are pregnant for a far shorter period than its taken Toyota to birth this car; 2) will its image hold up or be tarnished once the rice rocket set sticks tomato can mufflers, big
wings and gaudy wheels on them ?

Not a bad car at all... just the side vent reminds me of a blatant rip-off of an M3.

I'm pretty sure at least eight new cars this year have had similar fender vents.

Yes, side vents are this last generation to multiple exhaust outlets, but those vents, from the photograph, look to be nearly identical to the M3's. Cadillac at least throws a few flutes accents on theirs.
The car looks a country mile better than the Scion TC, but that rear spoiler is quite hideous. It just looks like it was an after thought.

Would this be the Supra or Celica replacement ?

Given a $25,000+ base price it's closer akin to the Celica.

This right here is perfect. I'm not too concerned about rumors that this car might not come out until 2013, I just really want Toyota to actually keep it this. Wonder if when it comes out as a Scion here in the states dealers will mark up the hell out of it since Scions are supposed to be pure priced. Hopefully not. Amazing car though, created to be a pure driver's car from the get go, so excited for this.

@Arsen89. . . That's exactly why it's coming here as a Scion, dealers can't mark them up!
What sucks is that the styling on the Toyota side is WAY better looking than the Scion. Not that the Scion version looks bad but next to this it's a let down. Had I never seen this styling, my ignorance would be bliss!!! This car is awesome looking! I can't wait to drive one!!!

I honestly think that this looks way too fast for the kind of performance it will deliver. If this had 400hp, I wouldn't be complaining, but it reminds me too much of those ridiculous widebody Celica ricers - you know, with the massive wings and jet-turbine exhaust tips and no engine work - that I see far too often. A cheap sports coupe should look like just that - look at the tC, Civic Si and Forte coupes. I love their design, which is fun and youthful without being too flamboyant.
So... will the FT-86 be a Scion or a Toyota? I'm confused.

@toyfan, lets hope so! I work part-time at a pretty honest dealer and Im sure they would not be sneaky like most and mark up a scion. I heard Toyota is very hard core on seriousness when they talk about the pure price thing. Hopefully that does not mean that we are going to get more expensive here in the states :(
But yes overall awesome car! As the engineer stated this will be a pure driver's car!! I want mine in stick please :)

Im pretty sure it will come out as a Scion in the states, due to the single fact that scion is actually the demographic leader (ages 18-25) and mitsubishi is second. So while the rest of the world sees Toyota under s different light. The people and therefore the market here, see it as an old people brand, which sucks, because I do not see Toyota as that. So to pleas the market here in the and remain on top of said demographic, Toyota will release this as a Scion in the states and as a Toyota in the rest of the world. Not too bad due to the pure price thing. But hey there are always rebadging kits lol
