FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: BMW M Who? Alpina Makes A BIG Splash With New Models And Customization
Although in the US market Alpina doesn't have THAT much exposure, it is relatively well known abroad. Some consider it in the same ranks as BMW M.

Clearly BMW seems to have an interesting relationship with the brand as it produces specialty cars that rarely make it to the US market. Take, for example, the Alpina Z8, and B7. Both are rare, especially when you consider how many cars BMW actually builds.

Perhaps it's like that because BMW doesn't want the almighty M to lose its clout.

Regardless, Alpina is stronger than ever, with several highlights from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The tuner showed off its 6-Series convertible treatment, its luxury-inspired 7-Series and the 5-Series B5. Although the 6 was really just rehashing what Alpina does at its finest -- performance modifications and Alpina's standard issue blue -- the real story was with the 7-Series and B5 wagon.

That's because Alpina was really showing off what's capable with its customization when it gets to the interiors.

Take a look at the 7-Series! If the 7 came like that from the factory it would be on par, if not better than, the the Audi A8. Then the B5 wagon is simply outstanding. In fact, Agent 001 said that the white car that featured a black and white interior was "the best looking Alpina yet."

That's a pretty serious statement from a man who's seen it all.

I would hardly call Alpina tacky but, they are based in Germany so, does it make sense that they would attack German cars??? Yeah.....

Hint, hint, BMW! Some of these options (piping) should be standard on your regular offerings to stay abreast of Audi in the interior department!

M = Race inspired from bumper to bumper
Alpina = Luxury and a few more ponies?

Completely different and don't think these get cross hopped

Actually, I believe Alpina upgrades are more than just "ponies" but upgraded transmission system (higher grade tolerances than standard BMW) and brakes with the same level of detail as an M series. Alpina is to BMW as what AMG was to Mercedes before it was taken over by MB.
