Lexus Cans LFA Spider, Adds "M3" Like LFA Special Edition, Hints At New Supra

Lexus Cans LFA Spider, Adds
Lexus will launch an LFA Tokyo Motor Show Edition at this autumn's 2011 Japanese show, CAR has discovered - and we can expect a brace of additional new Toyota/Lexus performance cars in the coming years, including a likely Supra replacement.

The Lexus LFA Tokyo edition will bring an M3-esque exposed carbon roof and (still hydraulically adjustable) carbon rear spoiler. Presumably this just means the weave is exposed, as the LFA is already made from carbonfibre.

Will the Supra share the same platform as FT-86?

"M3" Like LFA Special Edition"

- Lexus is creating an LF-A to mimic a supposedly lessor car that costs 20% of what the LF-A costs? That’s like BMW creating a "Lancer EVO" version of the M3.

009, you could have used a better analogy.

What car came out with a high performance version in bright orange? M3.
What car has an exposed carbon fiber roof? M3.
What car has a black wing on its orange, exposed carbon roofed, high performance version? M3.

It's an apt comparison as it's a good copy of the M3's formula. I'd say it is very much warranted to say the LFA Tokyo edition will is M3-esque. BMW makes a superior model to Lexus in every category except the LFA's category wherein BMW doesn't produce a vehicle. I see why they would copy BMW's marketing for a performance arena Lexus knows little about.

The LF-A is a $370,000 car. Marketing a car that expensive as if it were a BMW doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Design cues from a BMW M3 on a $375,000 car? I thought that the LF-A was striving for more than that.

How about the LF-A head its own direction instead of copying design cues from heavily modified BMW 3-series? That isn't how you enhance a $370,000 vehicle's appeal. I think it does the opposite.

I think I speak for everyone who knows anything about cars when I say this:

WE WANT THE SUPRA BACK!

As for the LFA Tokyo, it seems to be a waste of money compared with the regular version. But since the regular LFA is sold out, maybe there is a reason to buy it after all. Lexus is just betting it can sell a few dozen more LFAs no matter how much it charges. Wise move.
