It sounds like something out of a child's imagination. A Porsche-built Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Though AMG was in action at the time, it wasn't operating under the stewardship of Mercedes-Benz. And it appears someone over at Mercedes-Benz wanted to build an uber sedan to take on the then BMW E34 M5 that was gaining some attention.

Thus, the birth of the 500E.

Produced in limited numbers and hard to find in "clean" condition, this one located in my backyard in New Jersey is a properly rare find. Its condition appears stunning and boasting only 10,000 miles it was built in the heyday of high quality three-pointed stars.

But the seller knows its potential and isn't letting it go for under upwards of $57k. It didn't go in the auction that ended yesterday afternoon but perhaps they'll give it another go.

1992 Mercedes 500E.  The Mercedes that was built by Porsche.  Car is collector owned and just crossed 10,000 miles.  Comes with all original books and records. Despite the low miles, the car has been regularly serviced and has 5 new tires. No blemishes on this car and pretty much impossible to find in this condition and miles.
