While it's hard to decide between which Porsche is the best ever made, I can tell you right now that I know of at least two I'd name in the Top 10 without a hesitation.
The first car would be the last-gen Porsche Cayman R. I remember driving it on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on a 100-degree day in gridlock traffic. While there wasn't air conditioning as someone from Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) forgot to check that option box and the carbon-fiber backed seats hurt to get into, I adored every second of my time with that car.
The second car would be the last-gen Porsche Boxster Spyder. I drove this during my stint in Washington D.C. and it was one equipped with a proper six-speed manual transmission. I took off its funny hat and, boy, did its six-cylinder motor SING for days. Sure, putting the manual top back on sucked and took 10 minutes the first time — it also looked dreadful since I am not a do-it-yourselfer — but it kept the water out!
So, it's with great joy I can confirm that it is officially on its way, again!
Honestly though, this isn't much of a surprise. That's because if you follow AutoSpies you would have seen us prove that an all-new Boxster Spyder was snapped during its developmental testing. I think the stylized "Spyder" embossed on the seat gave it away ;)
As of now, there's zero word on when it will debut or when it will arrive in The States. I'd put my money on a Frankfurt debut and expect it to arrive spring/summer 2016. Just a guess though.
...Speaking at the VW Group annual media and investor conference, CEO Martin Winterkorn stated that the group's brands would be launching 50 new models this year. These included a new Audi Q7, A4, Porsche 911 and a new Boxster Spyder.
While details on the car remain relatively slim, what we can say is that it won't be as extreme as the Porsche Cayman GT4. We also expect the car to be a touch more edgy than the currently on sale Boxster GTS and to have a more integrated roof than the previous generation Boxster Spyder...
