In conversation with a journalist at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, GM’s Lutz, stated that the rear-wheel-drive platform of the new Chevrolet Camaro, set to debut in 2009, could be used for an ultra-luxury Cadillac model. The vice chairman hinted that one of the major reasons for the company to move forward with the Camaro was driven by the company’s desire to use the platform for other vehicles across the board.
The Car Conncetion quotes Lutz saying “If, for instance, we wanted to do a very large rear-wheel-drive Cadillac with more than eight cylinders you could do long, long, long,”
While GM has not yet stated publicly any plans to move forward with an ultra luxury Cadillac, GM’s vice president of sales, Mark LaNeve, said that he would like to move forward with a high-end Cadillac that could compete against a BMW 7-Series.
The 2003 Cadillac Sixteen Concept could hint at what direction Cadillac may take with an ultra-luxury model which leads us to say that GM could possibly even make Cadillac move forward with a four-door coupe body style to compete against cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLS.
