Now, I know I don't speak for every automotive enthusiast out there, but if there's one thing I hate, it's four-cylinder powerplants. They're dreadful. I hate that just about everything is equipped with those bassy and buzzy 2.0-liter four bangers these days.
It kills me.
That's because most of the time they're not refined or particularly smooth. And when you rev the pants off them they sound as great as a 1996 Toyota Camry.
So when I heard that Porsche was going to move towards building fours, I was a bit surprised and nervous. For a company that builds fantastic sixes this was not brilliant news. The good news is this though: it's said Porsche will be making flat fours.
If you don't get what I am talking about, let me put it to you this way: If you've ever heard a Subaru Impreza WRX, that uses a flat for. And if you've ever heard a modified Impreza WRX you know they can sound awesome and have character.
Aside from sound, the motors on paper look impressive:
- 1.6-liter = 210 horsepower
- 2.0-liter = 286 horsepower
- 2.5-liter = 360 horsepower
We think it's a good guess that all will be forced induction via a turbocharger though that cannot be confirmed.
How's this sound to you?
