38 MPG sounds more like Golf TDI or hybrid territory but the folks over at the Diesel Driver magazine got 37.93 MPG on the first leg of a long drive through New England (they even stopped for the fall foliage). They didn't soft pedal it, either, as journalist who drove the car most of the way comes from Germany so he is used to Autobahn speeds.
