Concern over engine fires in certain supercharged General Motors sedans has sparked the expansion of an existing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) probe.

This past January, the government safety agency initially launched an investigation into 1999-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTPs equipped with supercharged variants of GM’s stalwart 3800 Series II V-6. The bureau has reportedly logged some 180 non-crash related complaints of engine fires when the vehicles are parked and their ignitions turned off.
