In June of next year, the seventh-generation Volkswagen GTI will be launched on the European market, and it will arrive in the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2014. Europe will get an interesting option: For the first time, a factory performance package will be offered, but it’s not yet certain if it will come to the U.S.

The new car will be lighter by nearly 200 pounds, and horsepower—at least for the European market—will increase from 210 hp to 220. Like the current model, the next GTI will be fitted with an EA888 2.0-liter TSI engine.
