When it comes to luxury sport-utiliy vehicles, its hard to argue against the BMW X5. Since its launch the blue and white big daddy has been a success. Though popular in suburbia, the reality is that the sharp bite of the original X5 seems to have gone a bit soft.
With the debut of a flurry of SUVs from all angles, the X5's life has become tougher, not easier.
THINK: Now SUVs like the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Jaguar F-Pace, Maserati Levante, Volvo XC90, etc., exist solely to take away the Bimmer's marketshare. In recent years, these all-new entrants have been succeeding.
So, we've got to ask: What does the next-gen BMW X5 NEED to SUCCEED?
I am pretty confident someone will chime in and say the X5 is already successful. Perhaps by some measures; however, if all-new vehicle wants to come onto the scene and be numero uno, it has some work to do. After recently driving the all-new Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, I can easily say it is not the best-in-breed choice. Not even close.
