Jeez, one would think BMW would have learned it's lesson back with the E39 5-Series.
For the 2000 model year, BMW launched the M5 and, predictably, it was incredibly well received. People drooled and fawned over it. And then pretty much out of no where the Bavarians gave it a refresh that made it off the charts. For the 2001 model year, the 5-Series got the LED tube taillights and the much loved "Angel Eyes" made their first appearance in a BMW product.
These were small but very important changes that would have me change up pretty quickly.
And it looks like BMW's at it again. These recent spy photos show a 2014 MY M5 sitting in a lot with a touch of camouflage that appears to be covering the headlights and taillights. The headlights will be squared off at the bottom a la the 7-Series.
Clearly, the grille will receive a subtle change as well.
In addition, some speculation has rumor mill swirling about a possible "competition package" that would provide a slight boost in power as well as other modifications. Though there has been naysayers, I think it would make complete sense just to keep the M5 on its toes as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Porsche and Aston Martin are all launching new and improved 550 horsepower monsters.
As we have seen over the past few months on the web, the BMW 5-series will be receiving a minor face-lift for the 2014 model year, and the flag-ship M5 is no exception. Our spies spotted this M5 facelift parked at the Nürburgring while the test drivers where looking at the tourists driving on the track.
The changes on the 2014 M5 appear to be minimal with new LCI headlights, and revised wider kidney grilles, and a wheel style that seems to fit the agressive nature of the M-er nicely. Rear lights will also get new graphics and small changes at the rear bumper is expected...
