One of my favorite vehicles of all time is the Porsche 911 Targa, specifically the 993, 996 and 997 versions.
Sorry, but I am not a huge fan of what Porsche did with its Targas from the earlier days.
The reason I am a sucker for the Targa is because its always just a little more unique and just a little more special than the standard 911. Whether it's a new piece of trim or an extra bit of glass, the Targas always just have a sense of specialness to them. Oh, and they're typically the rarest 911s you'll find.
We'd guess that's because Porschephiles would rather go for the full-on Convertible or save weight with the Coupe. No point in the middleman.
As we hurdle to an unveil we're guessing will take place in the first half of 2013 -- some are grumbling the 2013 Detroit Auto Show will be where it appears -- more spy shots are emerging out of the woodwork.
The fake convertible roof seen on previous spy photos has reappeared in these, as Porsche is not ready to show the world it’s entire hand — at least not yet. In terms of powertrain, expect Porsche’s seven-speed PDK gearbox mated to either a 3.4 liter or 3.8 liter flat six with 345hp and 394hp, respectively. The trque output shouldn’t be anything but nominally different than the current generation 911, with 288lb-ft expected for the 3.4 liter and 324lb-ft for the 3.8 liter option.
