For what seems like eons, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has long been the benchmark of the large luxury sedan class. While Audi and BMW have made significant strides to rival the car, I would say that the S still reigns supreme in terms of which has the greatest perception in the marketplace.
Here's the thing though. The current generation product was pretty cool when it first bowed but over the years, it really seems a bit...antiquated. A bit too old man-ish, really. The interior just feels a bit too 1980s with the huge, sweeping gauge cluster shield and column-mounted shifter. I hated it on the E65 BMW 7-Series and I hate it on the Mercedes.
What we're here to show you though is that the next-gen car is on its way. And while its exterior looks ho-hum, its interior looks like it will be benefiting from a major tech push. Remember those two LARGE monitors on the dash we showed you earlier? In these shots they're active.
Disappointingly though, it appears that the center stack will retain that old-school vibe.
Time will tell once we see a set of images that depicts the interior to its fullest extent.
