HyundaiUSA.com/ElantraShare7retweetSaab announced on Monday that it has hired Timothy Colbeck away from his executive post at Subaru. A 25-year veteran of Subaru’s U.S. operations, Colbeck will take over as president and chief operating officer of Saab’s North American operations.

Colbeck, who specialized in e-business, finance and other areas while at Subaru, will report directly to Matthias Seidl, Saab’s vice president and head of global sales and aftersales.

Saab has stumbled so far in 2011, highlighted by a plant shutdown that was sparked by a payment dispute with suppliers. Saab originally targeted 80,000 sales this year, but has only managed 9,400 sales through the first quarter. Last month Saab sold just 696 vehicles in the United States.
