Today, information and communications technology account for more than 2% of global energy demand. Two percent doesn’t seem much, but MIT researchers did the math based on how this energy demand increased year after year.

As a result, they predicted that, if the trajectory doesn’t change by 2040, the information and communications sector will hit the world energy production capacity. And that’s unthinkable.
