One of the most interesting all-new products this year will be the Range Rover Sport. Aiming to take on the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Porsche Cayenne, it certainly has its work cut out for it.
But I am thinking that the Sport will have no problem triumphing over them all. Here's a quick breakdown:
- The Q7 is dated
- BMW didn't do enough with the X5 to truly make it exceptional
- Mercedes-Benz's ML is not going to be nearly as capable and fun as the Sport
- The Cayenne is heavy like a tank, which is good, if you like vehicles that aren't nimble — perhaps its technology will save it compared to the Rover though...
Now from what we've seen of the Range Rover Sport, it's impressively quick. When we say spy footage of a BMW i8 testing on the world famous Nurburgring, a Sport looked as though it was readying to pass. That's pretty awesome for a vehicle of its size.
It seems that Jaguar Land Rover wanted to set the benchmark a bit higher though. It did so by bringing in a plane. Question is: can the Range Rover conquer it?
