On the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicle's driver's exam there's a very specific question the organization requires you to answer. It's a multiple choice "fill-in" if my memory serves me correct and it goes along the lines of something like this:
"Driving is a _______ ."
The correct answer is "privilege."
This is a pretty significant lesson because when things happen to stupid people, you must remind yourself of this tenet.
If you park in a handicapped spot not only are you heartless but you deserve that ticket. And just like that, if you park in front of a fire hydrant you're risking having your windows smashed out and having the hose run through your interior.
Likely water will spray everywhere inside and your car will be forever irreparable because you were an inconsiderate jackass.
The reasoning behind firefighters doing this is actually an interesting one. In order not to constrict the flow of water, the hose must be as straight as possible. If you thought that firefighters were just trying to be jerks, think again.
You put the hose WHERE?! CNN's Jeanne Moos on why not to block the hydrant.
