Aftermarket tuner, ABT, is known for transforming some of Volkswagen Auto Group's products into some serious stunners. Now I like to give credit where it's due and I have to say that this transformation deserves some applause.

The modern-day VW Beetle has never struck a chord with me. I mean, it has a vase for cryin' out loud. The newer, manlier version was definitely a step in the right car that changed its image from that of the "flower power" generation to something more serious, like it had been taking Zumba lessons and toned itself up.

But our friends at ABT have done some particularly intriguing work with this updated Beetle. And it has caught my eye.

Using a 2.0 TDI Beetle as a starting point, ABT gave the vehicle a bump in power AND then spiffed it up a bit with some suspension work, big brake kit, aerodynamics kit and a proper set of "turbine" wheels.

That said, who really cars what I think? What say you, Spies?

Can you give THIS VW Bug a nod of approval or is it still sitting in the Hall of Shame?
