Maybach is presenting a new seating configuration at this year’s Paris International Motor Show, featuring an additional rear passenger seat alongside the high-comfort individual seats in the rear of the luxurious Maybach Saloons. The highly discerning clientele of the legendary automotive brand will now have the choice of ordering their Maybach 57 and 62 with either four or five seats. The latest modification sees Maybach further extending its range of optional extras for the two cars and thus offering exceptional scope for individualisation in the elite high-end saloon segment.
Designed with an extremely attentive eye for detail and built in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, the Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 continue the tradition of the legendary Maybach cars of the 1920s and 30s, which stood alongside Mercedes-Benz models as some of the finest examples of automotive excellence worldwide. The model designations are a reference to the majestic lengths of these unique vehicles: the flagship Maybach 62 stretches out for 6.17 metres, whilst the Maybach 57 extends to 5.73.
In addition, these state-of-the-art luxury Saloons are equipped with the ultimate in automotive technology, which make a journey in a Maybach as pleasant and as safe as possible. Since their high-profile premiere in 2002, the 57 and 62 have indeed set new standards at the top end of the passenger-car market in terms of their first-class equipment levels and masterful hand craftsmanship. These luxury cars reflect the expertise of DaimlerChrysler as the world’s oldest and most innovative car maker and reap the benefits of the unparalleled experience of May-bach’s sister brand, Mercedes-Benz, in the development, production and sale of high-quality models in the luxury car segment.
Ground-breaking innovations previously only available in Mercedes cars have been further developed and are fitted as standard in the Maybach Saloons. These include the Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC™) electrohydraulic braking system, AIRMATIC DC (Dual Control) electronically controlled air suspension, LINGUATRONIC voice-controlled operation and the COMAND APS control and display system.
These are joined by further examples of peerless vehicle engineering which have been developed specially for the Maybach and also serve to reinforce the claim of the luxury car brand to a high-end position in the automotive market. There is the twelve-cylinder engine, for example, which develops higher output – 405 kW/550 hp – and greater torque than any other series-produced luxury saloon engine, plus a 600-watt sound system providing Dolby surround sound at every seat, a highly efficient four-zone automatic climate control system based on two separate air conditioning systems and – exclusively in the Maybach 62 – innovative seats for the rear which boast an enviably comfortable reclining position. One particular highlight is the electro-transparent panoramic glass roof available as an option for the Maybach 62 in conjunction with a solar module, which provides extremely pleasant auxiliary climate control.
Design: aesthetics and elegance
The new Maybach models combine impressive technological advances with unsurpassed aesthetics, flawless quality and captivating elegance. The new Maybach is the result of imposing size and presence moulded into the most elegant of saloons, with an inimitable stylistic allure which exudes the perfect balance of classic inspiration and avantgarde innovation. Form, colour and materials blend together seamlessly to give the high-end luxury saloons an unmistakeable identity and enhance their majestic character.
The Maybach’s lines are designed to maintain an enduring aesthetic appeal – both from the outside and as far as the interior is concerned. A range of exquisite materials, including masterfully designed and hand-crafted fine wood trim ele-ments, adorn the inside of the car. Indeed, the Maybach’s interior design was inspired by one aim in particular: to provide the greatest possible comfort for all the car’s occupants.
The impressive spaciousness of the 2.25 or 2.68-metre-long interior is certainly a good start, whilst the seat comfort, low noise levels and highly efficient climate control on board the prestigious Saloons continue the theme of peerless quality. The Maybach is thus perfectly equipped to offer an outstanding driving experience.
Individuality: more than two million equipment options
Everything that the discerning driver and passenger could possibly require in terms of comfort, entertainment, information and communications is fitted as standard: from the DVD player and TV receiver, to a refrigerator compartment and cordless telephone with two handsets. And this generous range of standard equipment also leaves ample scope for individuality, a sign of the luxury car brand’s commitment to developing the tradition started by the legendary Maybach models of yesteryear:
When it comes to putting their personal stamp on the interior, Maybach customers can choose between six shades of grand nappa leather as standard and three types of high-quality wood.
The luxury car brand also offers a spectrum of 17 colour shades for the body paintwork which can also be combined to create a two-tone finish – another elegant hallmark of the Maybach models.
Maybach offers a total of around two dozen additional extras aimed at tailoring the Saloons’ technical equipment to the customers’ individual tastes or requirements. These include DISTRONIC proximity control, for example, the KEYLESS-GO access and locking system and active seat ventilation.
With the wide-ranging selection of standard and optional equipment, there are over two million different ways in which Maybach customers can personalise the design and fittings of their high-end luxury Saloon. The scope for individualisation is further expanded with a range of high-quality accessories developed specifically for the Maybach – from a made-to-measure luggage set to a sterling silver champagne flute, from a humidor to a golf bag.
Manufacture of the Maybach Saloons takes place in a state-of-the-art facility and in small unit figures according to customer order. This gives the engineers scope to implement further exquisite customer requests, turning each luxury car into a valuable one-off. Indeed, the Maybach factory also produces special-purpose Saloons – for luxury hotels, for example, or official uses in specific regions.
The engine: top marks for output and torque
The specially developed, twelve-cylinder, 5.5-litre bi-turbo power unit under the bonnet of the Maybach Saloons develops 405 kW/550 hp, generating peak torque of 900 Newton metres as low down as 2300 rpm. This gives the silky smooth engine a clear edge in terms of output and torque over any other high-end luxury saloon power unit. The engine’s impressive output and pulling power ensure that the new Maybach models handle any driving situation with the ease and authority you would expect of the brand. For example, the Maybach 57 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 5.2 seconds and uses the engine’s prodigious torque to power on from 60 to 120 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.
Safety: occupant protection enhanced by ten airbags
The outstanding safety technology of the high-end luxury car includes a total of ten airbags – two adaptive airbags with two-stage gas generators for the front passengers, plus four sidebags and two large windowbags on either side of the interior. The three-point seat belts with automatic comfort-fit, high-performance belt tensioners and belt force limiters are integrated into the seats and can therefore provide their full protection at all times, regardless of the seat position.
