The Volkswagen Group plans to revive the Scout off-road brand to gain a larger share of the booming US light truck market.

VW, one of the largest global carmakers, but with a relatively small US sales footprint that has tipped towards an expanded range of light trucks, plans to introduce a new Scout electric SUV and electric pickup, Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday.

VW’s board is expected to approve the plan on Wednesday, the newspaper said, referring to people familiar with the meeting. Scout will operate as a separate entity of the VW Group in the U.S. along with the company’s other brands, the newspaper said.

VW acquired the Scout brand with the 2020 acquisition of Navistar International Corp. Navistar was created in 1985, when International Harvester, which owned the Scout brand, merged.

We think this is AWESOME news and we told you the Germans would start getting into the Jeep/Bronco mix!

And like we predicted in 2020, Audi, BMW and Porsche will jump into this lucrative market. DON'T doubt us!
