Volkswagen is set to produce 200,000 units of the all-electric ID.4 SUV at its new Chattanooga factory in Tennessee, with a specific focus on the rugged ID.4X Scoutr variant. The company has already invested $800m in the plant, with a further $400m planned, and aims to create 1,000 new jobs with the production of the ID.4 range.

The new factory is designed to support the production of up to 300,000 vehicles per year, with production of the ID.4 starting in 2022. Volkswagen also plans to produce other electric vehicles at the plant in the future.

The ID.4X Scoutr variant will feature rugged styling and off-road capability, making it a more versatile and adventurous option compared to the standard ID.4. The all-electric powertrain will provide instant torque and a smooth driving experience, while the large battery pack will allow for a range of up to 250 miles on a single charge.

Volkswagen has high hopes for the ID.4 range, with the company aiming to become a major player in the electric vehicle market. The company plans to invest €33bn ($40bn) in electric vehicles, digitalisation and autonomous driving over the next five years, with the goal of producing 26 million electric vehicles by 2029.

The ID.4 range is a key part of Volkswagen's plans, with the company hoping to sell around 500,000 units of the SUV globally by 2025. The focus on the ID.4X Scoutr variant is part of Volkswagen's strategy to appeal to a wider range of customers, including those who enjoy off-road adventures and outdoor activities.
