The refreshed Tesla Model 3 was revealed a few months back with several improvements, including a sleeker design, new interior, and lightweight design - but it also gets safety improvements that include an active hood. According to the European version's owner manual, the electric sedan will receive an active hood designed specifically to reduce the effects of pedestrian-related accidents.

Here's how it works: The front bumper has several sensors that can detect pedestrian impacts between 18.6 mph and 32.3 mph. In the event of an accident, the rear part of the hood automatically raises by 3.15 inches. Increasing the height of the hood lessens the distance that the pedestrian would fall before landing on the car.
