The J.D. Power US Vehicle Dependability Study for 2024 was published recently, and it comes as no surprise that Lexus and Toyota are once again the most reliable brands. That's what happens when you build some of the sturdiest trucks available, not to mention some of the most dependable engines ever made. As you'd expect, the most reliable cars include the Lexus IS, ES, NX, and RX, and the Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Corolla, Tacoma, and Tundra.

It's not all good news, however. In general, the levels of dependability aren't that great. According to J.D. Power, the industry average for problems reported has climbed by an additional four problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). The industry average is at an all-time high of 190 PP100. The rate at which owners have reported issues with their cars from 90 days and up to three years of ownership has increased to 17% - a 5% increase over the rate in 2023.
