Jaguar XJ Diesel coming
In testing
XJ to get quick V6 diesel ... Jaguars fine XJ series is currently being tested in the West Midlands of England with the new 2.7-litre V6 diesel under it's bonnet - and it has shocked and surprised the engineers, for the all-aluminium constructed super-saloon is so light (by limousine standards) that the 200+ bhp and bucket-loads of torque is making the car almost as quick as the hot XJ-R sports model! While all this excitement is great for the engineers, it's very bad for the marketing men, as the diesel model was supposed to sit somewhere between the 3-litre V6 petrol and 3.5-litre V8 in price, yet it's power and silence could make the smaller petrol units redundant! Of course, they do not expect this to be the case in the USA where petrol, sorry gasoline, is a quarter of the European price. Jaguar has pricked up it's ears. Here in sunny Europe, half the X-Types sold are now diesels, and they expect that an oily S-Type will boost that models sales too, not to mention the XJ, which could become the luxury performance bargain of all time.
